Dispatch #005: From -4° and Blizzards to 9° and Not a Flake to be Seen
THE MISSION
THE LOG
A bit of a later start to the shift today. I couldn’t get into my first collection point until 09:00, so I was there bang on time, right next to Coventry Airport. It was a light start—just five pallets of magazines destined for a freight company up in Rochdale. From there, they’ll be heading across the water to the Isle of Man.
Once the magazines were dropped off, I headed over to a care home site in Whitchurch. A building contractor had finished up on-site and needed their gear moved back to their main yard in Leeds. I got the Moffett fired up and used it to load the bulk of the equipment. It makes life a lot easier on these muddy sites when you’ve got the fork truck on the back.
With the site gear loaded and strapped, I began the run up to Leeds. The roads were knackered but the contractors are a decent lot—they’re letting me park up in their yard overnight so I can tip the gear first thing at 07:00 tomorrow morning.
It’s been a productive day. I’ve parked up, had a bit of dinner, and spent some time on the phone with Yolanda and the kids (Daniela, Liam, and Sara). Now it’s time to chill out in the cab and get some rest before the early start.
What Tuesday might look like:
- 07:00 – Leeds: Tip the site gear from today.
- Mid-morning – West Leeds: Collection heading up to just north of Newcastle upon Tyne.
- Afternoon – Middlesbrough: Collection of a CNC machine.
- The Return: The CNC is bound for Hinckley.
I’ll drop the CNC first thing Wednesday morning.
THE NIGHT OUT
Stayed at customers yard.
